Rates and more
The fundamental backdrop right now is all about the interest rate situation and what is going on as far as risk appetite is concerned. Risk appetite continues to be a major problem, but ultimately, it is energy inflation that continues to keep rates elevated. They are drifting a little bit lower, and ironically, the gold market has fallen at the same time. This is a market that will continue to see a lot of questions asked on where risk is going, and whether or not we can hold a position more than a few hours at a time.
Gold
Really, at this point in time, this is a market that continues to see questions asked of demand. All things being equal, this is a market that, if we were to see a little bit of a push perhaps above the $4,250 level, could see buyers coming back in. As things stand right now, we are just probing what could be a major support level. Interest rate expectations coming out of the Fed still remain somewhat elevated, so that is working against gold at the moment.
Silver
Silver, on the other hand, has pulled back just a touch, only to turn around and show signs of a little bit of recovery. Ultimately, this is a market that sees the $55 level as a major support level, with the $60 level above being somewhat resistant. When you look at this $5 range, though, it has been support for quite some time. A couple of attempts to break down below it have been repelled, so if we can overcome $60, that would be a good sign.
We need sustained rates dropping in the United States to really make that happen. As things stand right now, it does not look as likely. Industrial production and demand seem to be picking up slightly, but the question is: will it be enough to turn things around?

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is the key resistance level for gold?
Gold needs to move above $4,250 to potentially attract renewed buying interest and improve its short-term outlook.
What is the major support level for silver?
Silver is finding important support around $55, where previous attempts to break lower have been rejected.
What is the key resistance level for silver?
The $60 level remains a major resistance area. A sustained move above it would be a positive technical signal.
Why are interest rates important for gold and silver?
Gold and silver do not pay interest. When interest rates remain elevated, interest-bearing assets can become more attractive, putting pressure on precious metals. Falling rates may improve their appeal.
Could silver recover if industrial demand improves?
Yes. Stronger industrial production and demand could support silver prices. However, a sustained recovery may also depend on lower U.S. interest rates and a decisive break above $60.
What could drive gold and silver higher?
A sustained decline in U.S. interest rates, improving investor risk appetite, stronger demand, and positive technical breakouts could support a recovery in precious metals.
