Coinbase says customer funds remain safe after a data incident involving third-party analytics provider Amplitude exposed contact information for a small subset of customers. The exchange said its own systems were not breached, but affected users may face heightened phishing and social-engineering risks.

Ronald Spektor, 23, was sentenced to up to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty in a phishing and social engineering scheme that targeted almost 100 Coinbase users. Authorities said victims were pushed to transfer crypto into accounts he controlled, with nearly $16 million in restitution ordered.

Solana Foundation CISO Michael Coates says crypto’s next major security challenge is shifting from code exploits toward AI-powered social engineering, fake identities and compromised credentials. The foundation is also evaluating post-quantum cryptography as blockchain networks prepare for longer-term risks from quantum computing.
