S&P Global has agreed to acquire OpenZeppelin, a smart contract security firm whose open source library has supported more than $37 trillion in cumulative digital asset transfers. The move extends S&P Global’s digital asset coverage from creditworthiness and reserves into the code security behind stablecoins, tokenized funds and DeFi products.

Crypto platforms are extending perpetual futures beyond digital assets and into stocks, indexes and commodities, creating round-the-clock exposure to traditional markets. The shift is drawing institutions seeking lower-friction hedging and retail traders looking for access, while questions remain over custody, investor protections and decentralized venues.
