Blockstream researchers have introduced SHRINCS, a proposed Bitcoin signature method designed to resist future quantum attacks while limiting pressure on block space. The draft remains early, with a pending security proof, non-production reference software, and a path to Bitcoin that would require a soft fork and broad network support.

More than three dozen bitcoin and crypto companies are pressing major AI labs to provide early access to powerful models for open-source security work. The firms argue that safety filters and closed trusted-partner programs are slowing defenders while attackers face fewer limits.

Nine major crypto firms have formed the Bitcoin Security Consortium, pledging a combined $15 million over three years for Bitcoin security research and open-source development. The initiative will support work on post-quantum defenses while avoiding any role in Bitcoin governance or protocol decisions.

Bitcoin’s BIP-110 proposal sought to temporarily restrict certain non-financial data on the blockchain, but it instead became a major test of Bitcoin governance. With limited miner backing and sharp criticism from prominent industry voices, the proposal now appears unlikely to move forward.
