Institutional crypto custodians are preparing for a future in which AI and quantum advances could pressure blockchains to change security standards. Project Eleven and Quantus plan custody support in the first quarter of 2027 to help institutions preserve controls across evolving cryptographic systems.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has proposed new rules intended to clarify how investment advisers and regulated funds may custody client crypto assets. The proposal includes a limited pathway for adviser self-custody, recordkeeping and disclosure expectations, auditing requirements, and the potential use of state-chartered trusts as custodians.

BitGo says European crypto firms facing the MiCA deadline can use its Crypto-as-a-Service platform to transition clients into compliant sub-accounts. The move could give eligible firms a faster route to meet the new regulatory requirements.
