Zcash developers have released Udon into Zakura Common, moving part of Project Tachyon’s proposed scaling upgrade into shared private-payment software. The work supports a long-term target of more than 50,000 private payments per second, though the upgrade still needs further development and security review before any activation.

Zcash developers are aiming for a Nov. 5 activation of NU7, an upgrade that would reduce block times from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. The proposal would also temporarily set aside about 60% of transaction fees for future miner rewards beginning in February 2031.

Zcash holders overwhelmingly supported shorter block times, preserving the network’s bitcoin-style halving schedule and moving ahead quickly with the NU7 upgrade. Nearly 2.4 million ZEC participated in the privacy-preserving vote, representing roughly two-thirds of eligible tokens.

Zakura has launched as a new Zcash full node designed to speed synchronization, support pruning, and maintain compatibility with legacy zcashd integrations. The release lands as Zcash developers prepare for Ironwood and pursue a broader plan to scale private payments toward Visa- and Mastercard-level throughput.
