Europe’s Markets in Crypto-Assets framework has positioned the bloc as a global regulatory leader, but the next challenge is execution. Licensing uncertainty, including Binance’s withdrawal of its Greek application, is sharpening debate over whether MiCA can deliver a truly harmonised single market for digital assets.

Binance has pulled its MiCA license application in Greece after delays and regulatory uncertainty forced it to pause some services for EU users. The exchange says it remains committed to Europe and is still pursuing a path back into the bloc’s regulated framework.

Taiwan has approved a major new law that tightens oversight of its crypto sector and raises compliance expectations for virtual asset firms. The framework introduces licensing, stronger custody standards, reserve requirements, and harsher penalties for violations.

Several major U.S. agencies are advancing a proposed rule to define how stablecoin issuers verify customers under the GENIUS Act. The measure would align stablecoin compliance standards more closely with traditional banking rules.

Binance says its European regulatory filing has already cleared review and is compliant with MiCA requirements. The remarks come after a Reuters report said Greece’s HCMC may reject the application.
